Mark "Spaffdaddy" Spafford
Spaffdaddy was born in Florida but grew up in Anchorage, Alaska. At the young age of 12, he first heard the song “Purple Haze” by the Jimi Hendrix Experience on the radio while driving in the car with his Mom. Spaffdaddy asked his mom who that was and she replied “Oh, that’s Jimi Hendrix baby, some guy that played guitar back in the 60's.” From that moment, he was hooked on music and became obsessed with learning how to play guitar. Spaffdaddy got his first guitar at 14 and spent the next 18-months playing guitar in all of his free time, setting aside video games, playing baseball, and collecting sports cards and comics He was hooked! With music coursing through his blood, he formed his first blues band "Continuation" and began playing professional gigs at the ripe old age of 16. Spaffdaddy has contintued to front a band playing original blues and rock material. His influences include Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Doyle Bramhall II and Chevelle among many others. Spaffdaddy plays in his own self described genre of scumbag blues, and it is the evolution of the roots blues and rock music that he grew up playing and still listens to.
Summarizing the experience of recording his first original album titled “Dyecaster” Spaffdaddy says, “…this record finally feels like I’m comfortable in my own skin, like I don’t have anything to prove other than trying to express myself as honestly as I can. As an artist, writer and human being, I’m in a good place, and I think I can allow this flow of music to come out and form a real body of work that my fans and I can appreciate. I’m thrilled to have them go on this journey with me.”
